I ask it because yesterday I got 3 WUs at a time in a PC with a e8500 (2 cores CPU) and 3 GPUs attached

And I still receive 4 WUs at a time in a PC with a Q6600 (4 cores CPU) and 1 GPU attached.

It seems that the limit now is the greater of the numbers of cores//GPUs. Isn't it?

I would like to know for sure whether now the limit of WUs that can be crunched at a time is the greater among the number of cores and the number of GPUs.

e.g.:

Now I have a 2 cores CPU and 3 GPUs (GTX295 + 8800GT) and I can crunch 3 units at a time, but

Could a PC with 4 GPUs (2xGTX295) crunch 4 units at a time with an e8500 CPU (2 cores)?

That would make a lot of sense, but I don't know if it's true.

Seems to be a max of 4 ... or at least I have 4 in work and 4 queued on my i7 with 8 CPUs and 4 GPUs ... of course that may just be matching the GPU count ... what we need is someone with a triplet of GTX295 cards to step in ... :)

Do they get 4, or 6? :)

I'm thinking to change the 8800GT with a second gtx295 but with with the two cores CPU (e8500). I need to know the "WU limit rule" before doing it.

Well, when I say "at a time" I count WUs being processed and WUs queued. Some time ago you can only have (processing and queued) as many WUs as cores has your system. But as I have said, now I have 3 WUs in a PC with only 2 cores. This PC has 3 GPUs, but in the past it allways had one of them iddle dued to the lack of WUs ("1 WU at at time per cpu core")

What version of the boinc client do you have?

We have not changed anything on this side, because the tests we have made to set the number of WUs per GPUs did not work.

I'm using Boinc 6.5.0

And, as you can see here , my PC "IQS-3" with an Intel 8500 and a GTX295 + 8800 GT gets 3 WUs of GpuGrid at a time.

NOTE: The account says 3x8800GT, but you can see in the details of any work that they are what I say (gtx295+8800gt)

Could be a silent change in the server software, to make the default behaviour "if nGPU > nCPU set nWU = nGPU".
