Hope a quick question. I have searched around but have not found a reference to this. Maybe I have just missed it.

I am looking at the GTX275 card. I have found a 1792MB card and the more standard 896MB card.

Does the more memory help GPUGRID in any way? I do not expect that I would see a lot of help in the one game I play but I could be wrong. Depending on what I can find for prices it may not matter.

Thanks,

Am I just a complete idiot or does no one know?

Any input would be great.

Thanks

As far as I know, it makes no difference. But, I am not the subject matter expert on the cards ... I have various cards and the only distinction I can see is on the speed of the base card itself. putting it another way, anything over 512M is good.

Were you writing your own application you might find the extra memory useful ... but here, they will write to the more commonly available cards ...

Should be no difference. As an example, on my 9600 GSO cards the 384MB one runs about 8% faster than the 768MB one (but it's also factory clocked 8% higher). It seems the memory footprint is rather small.

Thank you both for the inputs. That settles the battle for this application. Now off to figure out the others.

Thanks again

Early WUs used about 70 MB of GPU memory. Since then the time steps did get larger due to "larger WUs" (=more atoms), but not by much more than a factor of 2. So I'd expect the current WUs to not use much more than 150 MB. One could check with RivaTuner, but I have limited access to my machine now.

Well ended up finding a GTX285 1GB locally on sale for 290 and it seemed to good to pass up. Once the price comes down I will see about adding another one.

Found the card fit in the case fine but not with hot swap drive bays.

Finally crunching
