I have a couple of Gigabyte 8600 cards in my machines, but I have only managed to get a few results from one system. I have been getting poor results - too many failures, out of time, or project updates that terminate a project 80% in with a few hours work left and two or three days to complete the work, I have no explanation as to why this happens.
Although the NVidia 8600 cards are fine for normal use, I would prefer to have a card that can offer something to the project.

I have three other cards that I can use instead:
GeFroce 9800 GTX
GeForce 8800 GT
Geforce 8800 GS

I expect these are of more use, so Which of these should I attach to which system?

I have three systems I can add the cards to (1 each):

System 1 - AMD II 940 X4 (natively clocked), AM2+ baord, 4GB RAM, 1TB Drive, Vista 64bit Ult.

System 2 – Intel Q6600 (@3GHz), Asus P5Q skt775, 4GB RAM, 500GB Drive, XP Pro 32bit.

System 3 – Intel Q9400 (undecided but probably about 3.4GHz), Asus P5Q skt775, 4GB RAM, 1TB (Vista 64bit Ult. Or Windows 7).

PS: I don’t want to over clock the cards, as I want them to last a while!

Thanks,

Nice package of hardware. Wish I had one quad of them. ;-)

Well, as for the cards, they have the following shader numbers as you can see here:
GeFroce 9800 GTX - 128 shaders
GeForce 8800 GT - 112 shaders
Geforce 8800 GS - 96 shaders
The more shaders, the faster the result is finished.
So if you only want to use one card, the 9800 GTX should be the best.
If you can use all, well... ;-)
I think it doesn't matter much which card in which comp you use, but be aware of the power usage. Your systems should have good PSUs with at least 550W or so...

Good Point about the PSU!

My PSU's are between 500W and 650W.
I might match the lowest powered CPU (9400) with the highest powered GPU (9800GTX), to balance out the power issues.

I dont fancy risking the 130W AMD II X4 940 on the same system as the 150W 9800GTX as it only has a 500W PSU, and its been there a while!

Cheers,

Oops, it was a GTS, and it has 128 Shaders!
Hence the 77GFlops. The GT only gives me 60GFlops, and cost about the same!

Still the GT is on more so it will get more results in.
