Hi all,
I just launched an ASUS M3N78 PRO motherboard with onboard NVIDIA 8300 and quad Phenom with Windows7RC. Naturally Boinc was the first install, and GPUGrid started a task. Video was sluggish until I installed the latest chipset drivers, which as might be expected aborted the current GPU task. After reboot video is great but now GPUGrid says no CUDA is available. I reset the project, and detached and reattached. What to try now?

Not suprising. I don't believe that 8300 is CUDA capable.

Well, GPUGrid said it was running the CUDA app for a few hours, until I installed the chipset drivers. This is a GeForce 8300mGPU which is on the nvidia CUDA page.

Edit: Got it going again by reinstalling cuda drivers {[cudadriver_2.3_winvista_64_190.38_general.exe] and exiting boinc manager WITH quitting all tasks. Then boinc saw the GPU. I guess the chipset installation download doesn't include CUDA. Graphics performance is sluggish again but only while GPUGrid is running. Don't know how long tasks will take, 0.06% after 10 minutes. I will post the final number here.

I plan to put a 9400GT in [maybe after summer is over :-)] and will see how they cooperate.

Take a look here I don't think you've got any chance finishing a WU in 5 days. Sorry.

Yes, after 10% it appears it would take 10 days to finish. Wonder if the 8300 on the motherboard would give any SLI boost to a 9600GSO?

Since your chipset includes the GPU it's natural that the "chipset driver" also includes a driver for the GPU. And it's also natural that the one included is hopelessly outdated and thus doesn't know about CUDA.

Don't buy a 9400GT for CUDA. It's also only got 16 shaders, which is really not worth the money. Get a least a 9600GSO (the version with 96 shaders, not the new one with 48!) or a 9800GT. The latter gives you 112 decently clocked shaders at about 2 times the price of a 9400GT (at least in Germany).

And, no, the 8300 won't add anything to the performance of a 9600GSO.
