Well, quite a lot of information certainly...
Regarding this first link. It is certainly a reported mechanism as well for many other diseases like the autoimmune ones, where the body's immune system reacts against the own organism.
Some autoimmune diseases have been proposed to be caused by some microbial (virus, bacteria) infections. These have antigens (sort of pathogen molecular tags) to which the immune systems reacts and creates a protective memory, so that the second time they encounter the same pathogen they react quicker and more efficiently. However, and here comes the point, sometimes these antigens might be too similar to certain tags in our body's molecules as well. And this, might trigger a response by the immune system to these molecules as well, and be this immune response the cause for a certain disease.
This is hard to prove, but there are research lines in Immunology that target studies towards these mechanisms.
Cheers,

My own opinion is that most of what I've posted to this thread so far is of more use in attracting participants interested in schizophrenia research than directly helping your researchers. Only a few items look like research reports not already rewritten for the public. |

May be of some help to the researchers in deciding what combinations of keywords to use in searching databases less open to the public, but probably not much more direct use. |
