is there hope of 100% in the future, with the release of the 4.0 you were talking about or whatever, cause i need to know if i should buy a 460 or 465, i know that this network utilizes the 465 more, but yea, if its not 100%

Perhaps not 100% but over 90% would be fairly likely, and before CUDA 4.0.

I would say the performance of a GTX460 will remain much lower than a GTX465 for some time, if not always, but who knows what cuda 4.0 will bring. I would recommend a GTX470, if it's reasonably priced compared to a GTX465 - it's about 27% more productive.

There should be a reasonable balance between the GPU load and workability of the system. At present moment of time the load of 40-60% is not enough for maximization of PPD. But if the GPU utilization would be 99.99% as Primegrid does it would not be possible to use the computer at all because of freezes, lags and huge noise of the GPU fan. I think the optimal utilization of the GPU should be between 80-90%

I was going to Post about the same Problem, most of the time my 580's & 570's are only running at about 55%-65%, really a waste of Resource to me if I can't get up above 95% at least out of my GPU's.

That plus the fact I have to leave 2 Cores free to run the Wu's Faster so I lose another 50% on my CPU's ...

I run the PrimeGrid GPU Wu's at 99% on my GPU's and don't have any problem using the Computers for other Things, naturally your not going to be able to do any Gaming or other heavy GPU Work ..

Different tasks have different GPU utilizations. Utilization also varies with operating system, and with system hardware (GPU, CPU and RAM type mainly).

Typically, Linux (x64 only) is the best operating system, followed by 2000-2003 x64 servers and XPx64. Win x86 is slightly slower than x64. Vista and Win7 are the slowest operating system for GPUGrid (at least 11% slower than XP).

The fastest tasks tend to be GIANNI tasks (usually 95% and above, with some systems seeing 98-99% GPU utilization).

I'm running a KASHIF_HIVPR_so_ba task on WinX64 (i7-860, GTX260-216, latest beta driver/6.13app) and the utilization is 83-84% (reasonably good). Also running 7 heavy CPU tasks.

I also have a KASHIF_HIV task running on a GT240 (6.12app) on W7x64 at 94% GPU utilization. While this is quite high, the task will in fact be 11% slower than if it was run on XPx64 at 94% utilization. So it's important to use a good operating system to crunch on; If you had another task running at 83% on XPx64 it's at least as good as 94% on W7x64, and the 94% task would also run at about 94% on XP.

My two long IBUCH tasks are averaging 83 and 84% GPU utilization (XPx86 GTX470's, i7-920, 6 CPU tasks running).

I would add to what Steve say's about running at 99% - at GPUGrid (GIANNI tasks) there is not much impact on user experience. Greedy CPU tasks tend to have more impact, especially tasks that use large amounts of RAM or have a heavy disk I/O requirement.

I'm now running a long IBUCH task on the same WinX64 (i7-860, GTX260-216, latest beta driver/6.13app) along with 7 heavy CPU tasks.
No problems so far (6% after 1h, so should take around 17h) and the utilization is 88% (good enough for me).
