Thanks to MarkJ for the donation, after months of delays we have got our first GTX580. The first benchmarks indicates that the most recent code (close to be distributed) gets to 3.3 ms/step on a DHFR1000 workunit in Linux with a standard clocked card.

That's fast.
This one on David Yuen's rig took 3.9ms per step (XP X86) - a surprising 19% slower, and this one on Escape's system took 3.8ms per step.

Perhaps your tasks are better suited to Linux than other tasks?

How are Toni's performing on your setup?
Some users, including David, are seeing 3.5ms per step for Tony's TONI_KKAL2 tasks. This one ran at 3.4ms per step by Escape on XP x64.

It's not the setup or linux, it's further software tuning:

... most recent code (close to be distributed)

This task ran at 3.275ms/step, and this one ran at 3.256ms/step, but my GTX 580 is overclocked to 850MHz. If it's important to compare different systems with stock clocked GTX 580s, I can set it back to factory setting for a while.

So it looks like 580 is nice choice for GPUGRID cruncher? :-)

It is certainly very fast. Anything else is up to you to decide ;)
