I have the XFX 260 (216 Cores) Black Edition and it fails tasks left and right. Do not try to run this card. (PS, its not the heat as it was sitting comfortably at 73-76 C. It can handle furmark until it cooks at 94+ C without crash but GPUGRID it just throws a tantrum.

Well, I'd say give it a try. I've been running 2 260s (One EVGA and one MSI) for quite a while now and rarely get errors even heavily overclocked.

I know a few other people have had issues with them, but worth a try IMO.

I decided to give it a second chance, and I even clocked it down to reference speed. Here is just the first page. This is a XFX Black Edition. I don't think they designed it as well as EVGA or MSI equivalents.

[MDX] CJ, running GPUGrid tasks on a card at 73-76 C is not necessarily comfortable; some cards handle these temperatures fine but others do not. I would suggest you increase your fan speed, reduce your GDDR speed (makes little difference to performance of that card) and lower your GPU clock slightly. Also run with some CPU overhead; if your CPU is always maxed out you don't know for sure if other CPU tasks are causing problems (hogging).

Is your XFX 260 (216 Cores) Black Edition a 55nm or 65nm card?
GPU-Z would tell you.

65 nm

Ok. I've clocked it down, set the fan to 50, cut back on my cpu to 75%. So far my card is holding at a solid 55. Let's see how it does.

Forget about using your 65nm card at GPUGrid, it will probably never work. Sell it and get something better, while it's still worth something (best option), or crunch for another project (MilkyWay might be the most worthy other GPU project, but it's not medically orientated).

No worries. I finally got my big tower up and running. It's crunching on 3x GTX 460's. It killed my 850W PS and I just replaced it today with a 1200W. I'll go ahead and set my smaller tower to running Milkyway and see how that works out.

Milkyway is running steady with no problems on GTX 260. Thanks for the recommendation!

Cool, even if the odd task does fail there, the tasks only take about 12min to run so you are not losing a lot of run time.

Good luck,
