Hi,

I run gpugrid since i have installed my two gts-450 and normally it run without a problem. But two weeks ago, my computer don't get any job from the server. I try to update, restart the project, nothing works. I checked the server status, all is up and ready. So i wonder what's the problem... The server have actually 1921 task ready to send, why no one go to my computer??? If i can't get job for my gpus, i will run something else to get them at work. So if any admin see this msg, please take a look a the problems, you will get two more gts-450 running 24/7. If nothing is found till next week-end, i will restart crunching something else. Thanks

Your computer have failed too many tasks in a row, so it is automatically "blacklisted", that's why you won't receive any tasks for awhile.
It maybe caused by your latest driver update, since the 296.10 driver causing too much trouble for everyone, it is recommended to roll back to the 285.62 driver.

Ok thanks. It explain everything, i updated the driver 2 weeks ago... If i rool back to the last drivers version, does the server will know it and automatically un-blacklist my machine, or i need to mention it to somebody after?? Thanks again for the quick answer.

I think the default wait period is 24h.

Ok thanks for the information. I will keep the latest drivers that will get the job done. So i will start with re-installing version 295.73 first, and wait 48 hours. If no works is given despite the version change, i will go back 2 versions ans reinstall the version 285.62. I will do what need to be done to be able to support the gpugrid project, as to me, gpugrid is the most humanity profitable of all the gpu-able grid project. But, i hope you will be able to correct this problem in the future, as i will not stand with old display drivers too long, as i am also an everyday gamer, and the latest video update the driver provide are quite noticeable in the latest game like Skyrim. When i say noticeable, i mean that they provide a 45% augmentation of the framerate for the same setting as compared to the 285.62 drivers. I have the hardware to get me happy with the framerate i have now, but as game evolve quite quickly, this will not be the case for too long (+- 1 year max).

I'm pretty sure i'm not alone in this case, so i hope you'll be able to make your app work with them.

(Sorry for the bad english...)

You could make a dual boot system, if you separated a 100GB partition for a cruncher Win7 installation, and then you could use your original Win7 for gaming, and update the drivers in it as you please.
Or you can even have a pendrive with a fatdog linux on it, and you can boot from it, when you want to crunch (linux crunches faster than win7 anyway)

I have used Kubuntu for a couple years when i was coding an app in python that i finished 3-4 month ago. I since installed windows7 and started learning VB.net so i'm pretty stuck with win until i will be done with it. I prefer linux, but gaming and vb.net don't let me the choice for now, and i'm really tired of dual boot system, always changing after a gaming or learning session... For now i prefer simply let it run in background 24/7 as boinc do a great job at managing the ressources.

So thanks for the info, i now know what i'll have to do!

Just a little update to say that all the 295.x drivers don't work, as said in the faq. So i rolled back to the 285.62 as you suggested me in the first post. Now all is returned to the normal.

So if someone is here because of the same issues, roll directly to the 285.62 driver, you won't loose time and rac waiting if it works.

This is an important update to my first post. After reading a lot through the forum, i found a real solution for the problem. All the latest drivers work without any problem, but you need to make one small change in your windows configuration. I don't know if the same apply to linux, i've not tested it.

So i you want to be able to use the latest nvidia drivers (295.X, 296.x) for crunching using gpugrid, you need to go in the configuration panel, then go to system and security, after go in the "supply options"(I don't remember the exact term, but it is the menu you use to configure after how much time the screen close, and after how much time the computer hibernate...). When you'll be there you need to modify the parameter of the normal use to deactivate the 2 mode there, so the computer will never shutdown the monitor nor hibernate. Save and exit.

I found that the problem reside in the way windows shutdown the monitor after X min. When it did, boinc have no more access to the gpu, so it cannot do anything, and the tasks crash.

So i hope this will help a lot of people that was like me stuck with old drivers version that have poor performance in gaming! Have Fun!

This information has been discussed many times over. Further, if you wish to have the latest drivers, it APPEARS the monitor bug issue has been solved in the 3xx series. For 5xx series and below this would be the beta 301.24 version. Myself and others at Einstein@home have tested these drivers and have not had any issues.
