I have been noticing that my GTX570 task fails almost every time with new task after a successful completion. I have a GTX460 (768meg) as the recognized #1 card. It seems to never fail Tasks. In an effort to understand if this is because GTX570 is faster, I have ordered another 570 from EVGA. I'm hoping that this may solve :).
Will update with results. Predicting delivery tommorrow. I'll post back with resultant effect when I have more info.....

Crunch on.

I looked at your computers but did not see a GTX 570 listed. It could be the way BOINC sees the cards. You should not have an issue mixing cards with Windows 7 or XP. Windows Vista could have issues.

Please make sure you are running approved drivers. The 295 and 296 drivers have issues with the project. You can find older drivers for the GTX 570s and the 275 versions appear to work well.

Please keep us informed as to what you learn.

Thx - Paul

Note: Please don't use driver version 295 or 296! Recommended versions are 266 - 285.

The problem might just have been that the driver (266.58) does not support a GTX570/GTX460 mixed environment properly. A more recent driver might.

GeForce don't list the 266.58 driver as supporting a GTX570, so I thought it didn't, but they just don't list drivers that far back. The NVidia site does - GeForce/ION Driver v266.58 WHQL released on 18th Jan 2011. The GTX 570 was released earlier, 7th Dec 2010.

Most recient drivers support at least 2 GPU's without any messing about with KVM switches or dummy plugs, and recent versions of Boinc are also GPU friendlier.

Thanx all for the helpful input :)
.
It helps, as I have been contributing to GPU science projects (same name for EOC Stats for folding) for a long time. My issue is on an EVGA 'classy' board (classy goes for EVGA as well:)) and as was correctly surmised 570 in slot1. Programs have issues with discerning the 'master'GPU from the OS and almost always go with GPU1 as the determinate card. BLAH,blah....
.
As for the NV driver... not the issue as for my compute purposes, never a problem in past and only with the large units here. That being said, I'm so happy here that I just decided to 'match' the 570 and eliminate the issue :)
.
I'm confident that this will fix and I will have a "long and happy compute" here. Just posted in case there was something that the project could do to remedy a situation such as this.
.
Also the rig is an open bench 990X @4.2 on an H100 with the 2X GPUs on air in my basement. CPU max 65C and GPU max 70C (570)(460 55C max). Have another rig with 465 (slot1) and 460 that did not exhibit the symptoms as demonstratively. Paid $20 for that word and felt it a waste to not use it. lol. Stopped the long units there as the GPU's don't seem to do them to my satisfaction. That and I don't need to worry that using the computer "could/might/maybe" interfere and/or cause error. I just wanna make sure that I do all that I can to eliminate possibility of project slow down because of my equipment :)
.
In closing... Great project and great support from the donor core. I'm gonna feel right at home for many years.
