Heya,

I got a GeForce 8800 GTS with 512 MB (G92 Chip so CUDA2 is supported), windows vista, the latest official cuda driver for windows vista which is 177.84, got the sdk and the toolkit installed and also am using the very latest boinc client (6.3.11) but still it aint playing ball the boinc manager still lists the in the title mentioned message.

How do I get it work on the GPU?

thx in advance!

Do you have installed BOINC with the default settings(as a service/protected mode)?

Hi,

yes I have.

I just found something, my system doesn't seem to have a "nvcuda.dll" within the system32 windows directory or elsewhere although I installed everything cuda related. Any idea why?

EDIT: just found the file, so it's there but it still isn't working

Well, I don't see any computer attached to your account, but if you have installed BOINC with default settings, I would first try to install it without the protected application execution mode.

On the configuration screen of the BOINC installer click on the "Advanced" button and uncheck the checkbox called "Protected application execution". If you still have problems after that, please post the first few lines of the messages tab after you started BOINC.

Ok I will try that,

Another thing, I found two nvcuda.dll; one is about 1,41MB and the other about 913 KB, I tried both within the system32 and system directory but it didn't change anything so it's still not working.

Need to find out if cuda is working at all I guess,...

are there maybe any other cuda2 apps I could try to make sure CUDA2 is working on my system?

Oh and I just signed up for http://www.gpugrid.net and my computer is listed now but I can't get any work. Is this normal?

I would guess this is PS3 only, right?

After you started BOINC do you see something like

Coprocessor: Device emulation (CPU)(1)

in the messages tab, or does it show

Coprocessor: Geforce 8800 GTS ?

[edit]Just saw it is working now for you. I'm glad I could help a little bit. ;) [/edit]

Ah, I got one question left,... what about the cool visuals I know from the ps3, aren't there any for the PC/nvidia gpu part of the project?

Not that it would matter much but I'm curious.

edit: might be because of the "ready to start" state that I can't find anything!?

Well, the "cool vizualisations" on the PS3 are from Folding@home and not from PS3GRID. That's something different... ;)

As far as I know the project staff is working on a viszualization of the work that is done on you graphics card, but I don't know how soon it will be out...

I get the same message: "no CUDA devices found"

What the matter with "service/protected mode"?

BOINC can not recognize the CUDA devices if it is installed in protected app execution mode/as a service. AFAIK Berkeley and Nvidia are working on a fix, but as of now GPUGRID only works if BOINC is not installed in protected mode...

Thanx for the quick answer.

Big question: how to change? :)

removing 6.3.14 failed.
reinstalling 6.218 failed.

Any help how to change from protected mode?

And why has it failed? Have you got any error messages?
This would be useful for the developers to look into that problem...

Maybe the Windows installer cleanup utility can help to uninstall BOINC.

That´s strange.

I changed the data dir to the location on the programm dir to keep everything on one place (like the old 5.10.45 Versions did it) and it works just fine.
Installed 6.3.10 and now 6.3.14 and they run without problems.
Didn´t try a deinstallation.

On VISTA are not enough rights in the program path for editing the data through the program. So I prefer to install the program in the program path and generate a different path (e.g. drive:\ProgramData\BOINC) for the programm data. So I can use the installation with different user accounts. The orignal installation will install the data path in the user path, so I can't use the program from different accounts.

OOOOO found !!
VERY IMPORTANT, on Windows Vista is required that you disable 'protected mode' from the advanced tab during installation of BOINC!!!
!!!!

Hello,
Can you help now with solving this same problem on Gentoo Linux?
It works when I run it under console mode, but gets zero seconds of
work, and when run as a daemon it gives that same message.
