I'd like to know what the minimum requirements for the
base system are. A friend of mind is in the midst
of upgrade fever, and will sell me a pair of 8800GTS
for $150 (only b/c I'm a friend). I'm considering
dropping these into two servers at work and joining
the CrunchFest. The servers are wimpy! But if all
I need is something with a PCIe-16 slot and a Linux-64
surrogate - I'd gladly fund the two two GPU boards and
pop them into the two boxes at hand.

The current app is practically insensitive to GPU speed and doesn't need much RAM either, so the Semporn should be fine and crunching won't disturb the normal server tasks. An issue of concern may be cooling and power supply: if the PS is tailored to a low power consumption system then a 8800GTS may be too much for it. It should draw anywhere near 100 - 130 W running GPU-Grid. And make sure the cards are G92 based (i.e. 512 MB). The 320/640 MB cards are G80 based and won't work.
