So I noticed that this type of work unit raised the average temperature of my card 11-12C higher than most other work units. I also notice that the power usage of the card increased by about 30% and my fan rate jump accordingly due to my fan curve I have.

My question is, are other seeing this increase on their cards as well? Since then, the card has worked on other work units and is back to normal range, power, fan etc compared to other. I've attempted to look at others that have processed similar work units. Only a few are Windows based(Linux machines don't report GPU temps) and I can't tell if the temps they are seeing is within their normal range.

Anyone else seeing the marked increase in Temps and Power for these work units?

So I've gone back and looked at other results on my machine and it seems to repeat on different cards crunching similar work units. All of the Pablo...wild....sj4

Yes, I have seen something similar. Being a noobie, I thought I was a little crazy. It is not as dramatic a change as you note, but my GPU temp is 3 to 4 degrees higher and the related CPU usage is higher as well when crunching those work units. It is because of those WUs I reduced by one my cores for crunching. However, with all the new WUs over the last week, I can easily go back to 5 total cores crunching and my GPU temp stays 'reasonable' when not running the WUs you note.

I haven't had any luck with the latest work on my Windows10 system. One had an error last reported in 2014 that only had one comment. The last one had a segfault. The system previously had no issues with the work.

The Linux system reported a couple of valid tasks last week but hasn't got to the recent ones from today.

No great mystery, these WU's are just more computationally intensive than others and you also get more credit for them.

that's exactly it.
Same thing happens here (except that here the effect is the other way round: due to my fixed GPU temperature setting in the Nvidia Inspector, the GPU clock drops by some extent with these type of tasks).

Just looked at some of the results listed in the performance section. These work units definitely test the limits of the cards. Single card systems see a increase in temp as do multi-card systems but since they have spare room for air flow, the temp increase isn't a significant (they do go up but don't hit the Tmax before throttling occurs)

The few multi card systems I've seen are edging right up to the thermal max (usually 84C)

Just in time to warm up our homes (at least in the northern hemisphere), the PABLO sj403 WUs are back! I could tell something was different the moment I walked in; those cooling fans were noticeably faster.

Great for the points as well -- for those who care.

Nothing like a warm beverage sitting around a crunching-hot computer on a cool day....

I wish I had that problem. I'm still running the AC in the building that house my computers. They generate so much heat that that temperature stays at 78 all the time. I've been contemplating putting a roof vent on it to flush out the excess heat.But that would mean a whole redo of the roof as it's tile. I'm unable to remote into that system to see what the temps are but I know it's crunching them.

Indeed I noticed my gtx 1080 temps were at 73-77 during the last project, now it's at a solid 80-81 with the fans almost maxed out.

Where are you from? Is it possible to run without AC and have plenty of air flow or is the outside temperature greater than 23C?

Deep in the heart of Texas. Temps are dropping outside but the 2 machines I have generate so much heat that I need the AC to keep the temps below 25.5C in the building.

just a FYI...

I run hybrids and normally the temps on the GPU are 39-41 C with most work units. I have 1 sj403 running. That GPU is staying at 51C. I can only imagine the temps on a non-liquid cooled card. There has to be throttling going on with some cards. Anyone?

Haven't really looked at an air-cooled card in the act of crunching a GPUGrid task. Will have to remember to do that whenever a task gets its round-robin chance at crunching. I always run the gpu's with 100% fan speeds, so probably doesn't drop the clocks too far. Don't see it on Seti, but Seti tasks run so fast it is hard to say. Assume a different story with a GPUGrid task occupying the card by itself for 60 minutes straight each time it runs.

I see those sj403 tasks ran for a really long time, probably the longest I have ever seen. 20K seconds or there about. That would be the type of task to inspect the gpu clocks on.

I see 52 C on my GTX 1060 on my new Omen HP desktop with a Ryzen 5 1400 CPU. CPU temp is 50 C.

OK, just looked at a sj403 task running for about 30 minutes currently on one of my EVGA 1070Ti Black Edition cards. Seems to be running about 6°C. hotter than the same card in the same host running Seti tasks. Three of them in the same host.

Don't see any drop in core clocks on the card compared to the Seti tasks. Currently running 1873 Mhz in P2 state.

No. it is running a long winded climateprediction.net. The only problem I have with the Ryzen chip is that its BIOS does not include AMD-V. I try to install it by shutting down,restarting, typing ESC and then going to BIOS setting but so far no result. So I cannot run LHC@home tasks which use VirtualBox.

On my Ryzen board, virtualization is called SVM. See if you can find it in the CPU options of your BIOS.
