Hi
I wanted to help crunching QC tasks. I have Windows OS so I created a virtual machine (using VirtualBox) and I installed Ubuntu (minimal version). I downoloaded BOINC and set GPUGrid project but I can't crunch, because I haven't got enought big disk! I set 16GB non-dynamic disk but it's still too little. How big virtual disk should I set? Or maybe it's a configuration problem?

Ola,

There should be a message in the Event Log when it tries to get a QC task that will tell you how much disk space is needed. IIRC, it is about 57GB for the QC task (unless something has changed since the last time I got the message). Add in enough space for the operating system, swap space, etc. and I usually set up my VM's with 75GB.

Hope that helps.

You're right, it needs 57GB! :O I saw 5 at the beginning of the number and I didn't read it carefully, a saw there about 5GB (I would never expect so much memory is needed!). Oh, brain matches facts to expections :D Okey, I can't crunch QC, I haven't got even enought disk space. Maybe I'll wait till SSD memory became cheaper ;) Thank you and I'm sorry for unneeded topic.

Late to this thread. Even 57GB might not be big enough. There was a discussion in the CPU multithread when the QC were failing. The current QC will get by with current allotment of space but they recently pulled some work as it was using up all the space on the HD. The recommendation was get bigger HD for those work units. No word on when or if those will reappear. However in preparation for those QC a minimum of 1 TB was floated. 1 TB of SSD is expensive but the scientist said 1 TB of HDD would work and the cost of those is significantly lower than a SSD. So I recently converted back to a larger HDD just in case those QC work units reappear. So just a heads up.

They are also trying to break up the work into smaller pieces. There are not many people who will be able to do 1 TB, though it would be fun to have the option.
