How do I install Boinc 6.3.21 as a service? There doesn't seem to be an option for that in the setup.

I prefer to run Boinc as a service an very rarely use the Manager.

If you use the default (protected application execution) BOINC is installed as a service...
You can find that option in the BOINC installer.

This is ridiculous! I will end up with many work units over deadline now because there is no way I can crunch all that has been downloaded in the required time.

That is strange.
6.3.21 works fine so far for me, I never had a real problem with it and I stick with it, as long as there's no other version out where no one complains about problems.
Can you post the lines of your log?

The one with the 20 WUs downloading you seem to referring is SETI... ;-)
I thought you meant too much GPU-WUs. ;-)
So it looks rather normal for me.

Btw:
You have a quad. GPUGrid normally gives you one WU per core, so you shouldn't get more than 4.

Furthermore you have a 9600 GT. I have the same one.
With 4 WUs you could get a deadline problem with the last one, if your card has a clock rate lower than 1.8 GHz.

BOINC downloaded a pile of SETI wu's and then it downloaded a pile of Rosetta wu's and then for good mesure it downloaded a pile of WCG wu's!

I was going to start crunching for gpugrid but when Boinc downloaded all these extra wu's I figured adding another project at this time probably wouldn't help matters much.

Now I have to try to crunch all these wu's before I can sign up for gpugrid.

Hopefully BOINC will stabilize and not continue to download more work than I can manage to crunch.

When the wu's have all been crunched I will try resetting the projects as K1atOdessa has stated.

What do you have set for these options ?

You can check the 'DCF' by using the new 'properties' button on the projects tab in manager. If it near 1.000000 you should not need a reset. Only if is is near 0 or very high it might help.

Which clock rate are you referring to?

When I look at 'system information' from within the Nvidia control panel it shows:
Core clock: 650 MHz
Shader clock: 1625 MHz
Memory Clock: 900 MHz (1800 MHz data rate)

Something that no-one has mentioned in response to your original question, is that you can't run BOINC in service/protected mode on a machine that you want to run GPUGRID on. If you run it in protected mode, it doesn't correctly detect your GPU type, and so will error out on every GPUGRID WU.

One thing I did notice about the 6.3.x BOINC stream is that it did load more work than it did under 6.2 and earlier. However, after awhile, it figured out how much work really could get done on non-GPU projects, and did scale back on the d/l.

I also have scaled back my cache settings to allow just enough work for 2-3 days.
