Greetings, I am trying to get up and running with a Telsa C870, but I always get 'no work'.

Well, the Tesla C870 comes from the Quadro FX5600/8800GTX familiy (source - http://www.heise.de/newsticker/Nvidias-Rechenknechte-Update--/meldung/91374 (in German)), so it's maybe not supported - FAQ.

You get this because the C870 is based on the G80 chip. While a CUDA device, it has compute compatibility 1.0 which does not include the atomic functions feature necessary to run the GPUGRID application (this requires compute compatibility 1.1). Sorry I don't have better news...

Your C870 (and the other X870 series GPU's) should work fine on the 2 other GPU based projects running now, Folding@Home and seti@home.

I'd try Folding first...

There is another non-boinc project out, but their latest beta client has expired, and there has been no new client posted yet.
