I've been running GPUGRID for about three weeks. As a finished WU is uploaded another is downloaded, so I always have one running and one waiting. No problem.

In the last 24 hours I keep getting:

GPUGRID Message from server: No work sent
GPUGRID Message from server: Full-atom molecular dynamics on Cell processor is not available for your type of computer.
GPUGRID Message from server: (won't finish in time) BOINC runs 99.5% of time, computation enabled 100.0% of that

Now I have one running and none waiting. I'll be idle in three hours.

It is me? Do I need to do something?

Tom

This is daft!

For the last three WUs I've had to manage GPUGRID manually.

When a WU is done it uploads, but no new WU is downloaded. I have to do "Update" to get just one WU, and "Update" only works if I have no work to do. If a WU finishes in the middle of my night the GPU is not doing any work till I get up to do the "Update".

And I keep getting the messages in my post above.

I expect GPUGRID to work automagically, like other BOINC projects. I don't want the hassle of nurse-maiding it!!

Help!!!

Tom

I think you are running into some of the work fetch issues in the BOINC 6.6.xx clients that have been discussed elsewhere. You might consider dropping back to 6.5.0 which seems to be more stable in this regard.

Thank for that Scott, but...

1. I was not offered 6.5.0. in the "All Versions" window so I...
2. Downloaded 6.4.7. It did not offer me GPUGRID so I...
3. Downloaded 6.6.15. No GPUGRID there either(!) so I...
4. Reluctantly downloaded SETI and got scores of their WUs.

So I'm now SETI-ing, not GPUGRID-ing. Bizarre.

Tom

PS - I note that the GPU temperature with SETI is 20 degrees lower than with GPUGRID.

This morning, running 6.6.15, I typed www.gpugrid.net into the “Choose a project” box. I connected and a WU downloaded. It quickly failed with “acemd_6.62_windows_intelx86__cuda.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.” That happened four times.

I installed 6.4.7 but:

1. I don’t get any GPUGRID WUs
2. If I start SETI, one of my two CPUs goes to sleep.

Back to 6.6.15 and SETI…

Try here for a link to all BOINC versions. Also, you should note that there is a potential problem when running SETI GPU units alongside of GPUGRID units where some SETI work crashes and subsequently causes errors in all GPU work--even from another project--requiring a full restart to rectify.

Thanks Scott! I'm back up with a spare!
