I am very new to this forum
have qx9650 with GF 295
I have noticed best performers are i7 machines
how does that help the GPU [Cuba] performance?
Do 2 or 3 295 increase performance ? by how much?
also how about the Quorato GPU boards? have read that they thrash even 295 in particilar programs?
have been idling along on RAC of 11500 and clocked up 242k in 18 days so far with GPUGRID.
are any of the other sites as good as that?

Not sure what you're asking.

- CPU speed doesn't matter for GPU-Grid
- more GPUs can work in parallel on different WUs, if set up properly
- it may be that you use only one chip on your 295; you have to disable SLI to use both (and get twice the WU throughput)
- 2 or 3 of these cards should get you 2 or 3 times the WU throughput, respectively
- forget about quadros, they are the same chips with more memory, a slightly different driver and a much higher price tag

are any of the other sites as good as that?

What does that mean?

The i7 machines are probably the best performers by accident as it were. The i7 MB are usually higher end and those that are willing to spend the money on an i7 are likely to also spend money on the GPU side. For example I now have 3 i7 systems and all three have two GPU cards. All but one of my GPUs are GTX2xx cards with my "best" system having a pair of GTX295 cards.

Had I more money I would have bought MB that were not on sale and would have had the possibility of adding more GPUs over the next couple months ... as it is, I will have to wait, but soon enough I will be running i7 boxes with 3 or more GPUs cards.

As ETA said, it is not the CPU, it is the GPU ... what model, and how many of them ... I think the top performing system has 3 GTX295 cards in it ...

Thanks for the info
can you split a 295 to get 2 GPUs working ?
my 295 uses .17 cpu 1 Cuba while the other machine with a GTX 8800 ultra uses .13 Cpu 1 Cuba.
as GPUGRID only uses the GPU not the CPU only.
I am using climatepreductions on the same machine 4 threads taking 100hrs in real time.
am intending to get a i7 920 machine soon, so how would best configations.
does a 920 OC to 3.4 rate the same as a i7 975?
what sites produce the most credits re what sort of computer?
have 251k credits 18 days with GPUGRD.

In one of my i7 Boxes I have two GTX295 cards giving me 4 in work tasks at a time. SLI has to be off. Be sure to have enough cooling and power.

The 0.22 CPUs is an estimate and is almost always wrong and also high. The best indicator of actual CPU use is the Task Manager Where you will likely see less than 1% CPU use most of the time for GPU Grid tasks.

I like the i7 for running GPU in that when we did have higher load on the CPU I could run the 4 GPUs on the 295 cards for the same CPU load as one GTX280 card on a quad. I think it has a lot to do with the higher thread efficiency on the i7 as contrasted to the Q9300.
