After a few months away from BOINC I'm coming back. I builded long time ago a LTSP cluster with 5 PCS and I wanted to build a new computer.

At first I thought to build a LTSP, but after reading a few post I found out that the best option seems to be to use GeForce Cards.

I would like some advice. I want a cost effective machine. I'm thinking to spend around 1.000 €. Money it's not big problem.

After reading about failures http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=866 and http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=955

I would like to run it under Ubuntu with 4 GTX260 (seems to be the best cost effective), I wish to have advice from people that have a System similiar to the one I want to build.

Finally I builded my first computer:
CPU type: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 6 Stepping 2]
Number of processors 2
2 PCIe
2 GB of memory
[1] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 (895MB) driver: 18618
[2] NVIDIA GeForce GeForce 9800 GT

I was worried that the processor wasn't good enought for the two cards, but it is since it says it's 0,39 CPU for each of them.
After reading a few post and looking into the results, I think next computer I'll try to build it with 4 9800 GT

You may want to consider one or two GTX260 cards instead. Those cards are about 3 times faster than the 9800GT and likely would draw less power in total. Also, if you wanted you could add more cards later. The other advantage is that the 260 cards allow you to attach to MW if you would like as an alternative project (along with Collatz) ...
