6 Cores are upon us - below is the Guru3d review of the new Intel i7 980X 6 Core released on 11 Mar - anyone with a spare $1,000 fling it my way and I'll find a good home for it in a CPU not a million miles away :)

This thing is a beast ......

Is "Beast" the new black, XP, & touch? Boxers, Soccer Players, & even Obama's car are called "The Beast". Wouldn't you need a tri socket motherboard & 3 of these "Beasts", to be "Apocalyptic"? ;-)

It would have blown my mind if all the lower end chips were also six core ...

Well, I might consider replacing my one quad core with one of them this year ... but would have been nice to go to the six core version... but that might be just a bit too pricy for my wallet ...

Earnings wise, far better to just get another ATI card to replace one of my GTX260 cards ... just as much, if not more bang for the bucks ...

And if I got a MB that can handle two GPUs I would be way ahead even with one of the lower end of the new chips ... 4 more cores, as good or better clock rates, maybe 64-bit OS to take advantage of the 64-bit apps (and dip my toe into that water) ...

Well, taxes first ... :(

I dont think it will be too long before they filter down the line and/or drop in price. A substantial number of quad i7's are already EOL, Intel's 8 core Q2/Q3 2011, and AMD's 6 core offering end of this month will all help - competition is a wonderful thing :)
