Hi ZTMIKE! Thanks for the reply. As far as what I saw..it wasn\'t folding@home..because I actually fold on that right now..I wish I could find the youtube video of it.. But I saw the link to how you can get started, and I have a couple questions..What exactly is a pendrive? Does Walmart or other stores sell these, and about what price range is it for a 512mb size one? My other question is, when will wifi be supported? My last question..I have is, ps3grid is it pretty much the same as folding@home? How optimized is the ps3grid project compared to folding@home? Hi ZTMIKE! Folding@home is a distributed computing type project, but runs stand-alone. If you run that, that is all you can do. Although it is already supported in the PS3 without having to add extra software which is easier. PS3GRID is a distributed computing, volunteer computing or grid computing type project that runs within the BOINC framework. The BOINC framework allows a large number of projects to be shared, currently there are more than 60 running or in the works. They cover a wide range of scientfic subjects, weather, space, biology, proteins, chemistry, mathematics, games or puzzles, graphics and so on. They can run on PS3\'s, Windows PCs, Linux PC\'s and MAC\'s. Each project though, needs a specific application written for each type of hardware, which at this time there are only a few that support the PS3. A description of PS3GRID\'s science is on the front page. Graphics are nice, but do take away from your processors total capacity, meaning less science work is done while graphics are running. This was part of the original design of BOINC, to use \'spare\' processor power. Since its inception though, most participants like to let it run full power with the screen turned off. WiFi can be supported by installing the full YDL version of linux. In a future version of the USB drive, wifi may be supported, but I can give no definite time that will happen. A link to how to install the full version of YDL linux is also on the front page, but this requires using part of you hard drive space. As for a pendrive, that is one name for a USB Drive, sometimes called a thumb drive (since it is the size of a person\'s thumb), jump drive, or any number of other names. See the 5 easy setup steps off the front page, for a photo of one. Price will depend on where you live, but in the US now a small one like that can be $10 US Dollars. Anything larger than 512MB will work, but the extra capacity is not used by the linux live install, see front page to setup instructions. Stats for all BOINC projects can be found at sites like BOINCstats or MundayWeb and a few others. They also provide links back to all BOINC projects and forums for discussions. | |
