Hi

It seems to me the due dates are too short for each WU there is just not enough time.

I am now on my 4th task and have no credits yet. The first 2 I canceled because I didn't make it in time. The 3rd one I let finish even though I was past deadline but I won't get any credits for it and now I have 94 hours to finish a task which is estimated the machine to take 88 hours.
And I cannot run the Machine just for GPU crunching 24/7 I can maybe give the machine 12 - 3 hours each day.

So my question really is. Will I probably get better work units in the future for which my machine will have more time?
Or should I just quit the project?
I mean thats ok I am just disappointed that I cannot contribute.

Regards

Thorsten

With your present setup your laptops Quadro FX 880M, would just about finish tasks in around 3.5 to 4days.
Basically you would need to run tasks 24/7 to make sure they complete in time, so I dont know that it is worth it on a laptop.
However your card is similar to a GT220, which should take about 2days, so I guess you need to change some Boinc configuration preferences. Allow the card to crunch when you are using the system is a must; your completed task started and stopped many, many times.

What do you mean with changing the Boinc configuration?
How would a configuration change improve performance?
Or do you mean to change the setting that it runs 24/7?

Well I guess I cannot contribute to the project then.
It`s just not possible to let the task run 24/7.
Its disappointing but I guess its more the Projects loss and not mine. :-(

Open Boinc Manager in Advanced View,
click the Advanced Tab and Preferences,
under Processor Usage, click Use GPU when computer is in use.

Your system would probably need to be on at least 12h a day to complete GPUGrid tasks in time.

If you crunch on your CPU, leaving one thread free also helps a bit, especially if you use the system quite a bit.

Out of interest what does it say in the 13th line down on the Boinc Messages Tab?
Should look something like this,
31/10/2010 23:31:33 NVIDIA GPU 0: Quadro FX 880M (driver version 26099, CUDA version 3020, compute capability 1.2, 989MB, 112 GFLOPS peak)

If you dont want to use your GPU here you might want to use it elsewhere, for example Einstein.

Good luck,

Post to thread
