Message boards : Number crunching : Number of unsent tasks going low...

I see the number of unsent / to be sent for processing tasks going down. As they stand now, I guess we'll run dry in a few days! I switched on short tasks, even if being afraid of them NOELIAs, just to make sure I have work to do.

I don't recall any problems getting longs for several months now. Maybe they have an alert when the unsent tasks get low.

Some new runs were started by Nate (see news section). BTW: GPU-Grid generates new WUs as results trickle in (until one "string of WUs" in a run is finished). So a rise in the number of connected hosts would directly reduce the amount of unsent tasks. But finishing runs does that, too, or course.

I don't recall any problems getting longs for several months now. Maybe they have an alert when the unsent tasks get low. We constantly monitor the status of the work being done, and we know (roughly) when new work needs to be ready. We try to have a few projects ready to send so that when work begins to dwindle, it is maybe a few hours or days before we send a new group of work. Normally we try to do it so you guys don't even notice, but sometimes there's hickups.

I check the Server status page a few times a day, it has become kind of a hobby to watch the rate of task completion! :) I just went into panic mode watching the unsent tasks go down to zero! With so much GPU power in this project, it would be a shame to run out of work..

When tasks are being generated from returned tasks, even when there is zero work, tasks will still be returned and more auto-generated from them. So, assuming this system is still in use, even when there is zero work to be sent doesn't mean you wont pick up new work until a new batch is added.
