Let us know if there are still issues of connecting to the server or downloading/uploading.

Thanks Gianni for the reboot and the heads-up :)
Connection to account better but not too much

Connection to account much better but not as good as bevore (was nearly immediately). Posting here is as good as it was, quite perfect ;-)

Forum perfect, 'my account' - 3 minutes of waiting. So for me nothing has changed.

Updating "Your account" is still slow but faster then it was yesterday.
Going to Performance takes time.
The "Top performers per batch" is completely empty.
Being on the "Performance"page and then from there going to the "Stats" page or "Volunteers" page goes quick. But doing the same from "Your account" page it is still quite slow. There could be something in the script of that page that is hampering.

Off topic: shouldn't it be called "My account"?

what does the timeline in the browser's developer console tell you?

Did the corresponding page in other projects also slow down? May be due to slower responses from external servers handling the CPID (namely boinc.netsoft-online.com).

Not that I've noticed. I'm familiar with slowdowns caused by netsoft-online: I suspect it becomes netsoft-offline briefly around 09:00 UTC most mornings, just as I'm opening up my browser - perhaps a backup or log rotation script. When that happens, there's usually a brief stall in the page load (much less than the ~15 seconds I've reported for here), and then the page finishes rendering with a blank zone where the netsoft information should be.

Server access slowdowns appear to be endemic across a number of BOINC projects just now. One (CPDN) has reported a large number of unexplained authentication attempts from an unknown IP address (well, they reported two addresses, but one has identified itself). Another project (SETI) has reported their "mysql database (the user/web database) getting into a overly busy state" - partly due to an inefficient statistics collection script, partly due to the regular statistics exports, and possibly due to other issues as yet undiagnosed.

I have to say that the performance issues I've been observing here feel like they fit into the 'overly busy mysql' group rather than internet connection problems.

That was my original hypothesis, but finger's currently pointing at our local last mile.

05/03/2015 08:20:24 | GPUGRID | [http] HTTP error: Failed writing received data to disk/application

All seems normal until that 'invalid block type'. File downloads normally when requested by a browser, and is the correct size of 1,682,308 bytes

<file> <name>e1s51_546f52-NOELIA_pnp-0-coor_file</name> <nbytes>1682308.000000</nbytes> <max_nbytes>0.000000</max_nbytes> <md5_cksum>e5a005a11642e507beef99fdf8d5a151</md5_cksum> <status>0</status> <download_url>http://www.gpugrid.org/PS3GRID/download/71/e1s51_546f52-NOELIA_pnp-0-coor_file</download_url> </file>

and the correct MD5 e5a005a11642e507beef99fdf8d5a151.

BOINC's download is 1,675,729 bytes and has the wrong MD5. I'm going to try replacing it with the browser download to see if the task runs.

Edit - BOINC has accepted the download, and task is ready to run. But looking at WU 10721772, I'm not optimistic - there have been two previous computing errors, with failure to read a different file.

I've got one stuck downloading:

3/5/2015 4:39:51 AM | GPUGRID | Started download of e2s206_1210f170-NOELIA_bi-0-coor_file
3/5/2015 4:39:55 AM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
3/5/2015 4:39:55 AM | GPUGRID | Temporarily failed download of e2s206_1210f170-NOELIA_bi-0-coor_file: transient HTTP error
3/5/2015 4:39:55 AM | GPUGRID | Backing off 00:38:09 on download of e2s206_1210f170-NOELIA_bi-0-coor_file
3/5/2015 4:39:56 AM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

And another one stuck uploading:
3/5/2015 4:44:58 AM | GPUGRID | Started download of e1s165_637f40-NOELIA_pnp-0-coor_file
3/5/2015 4:45:03 AM | GPUGRID | Temporarily failed download of e1s165_637f40-NOELIA_pnp-0-coor_file: transient HTTP error
3/5/2015 4:45:03 AM | GPUGRID | Backing off 04:03:43 on download of e1s165_637f40-NOELIA_pnp-0-coor_file
3/5/2015 4:45:04 AM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
3/5/2015 4:45:05 AM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

And on both of them, the size expected and the actual size loaded (up/down) are different. In both cases the actual is larger than the expected.
Could these issues on these WUs be just poorly malformed NOELIA files and not website issues?

The site itself was inaccessible once that I since the reboot.

Again, 2 NOELIA files. Makes me really think it is a malformed set of files and not a website issue unless it does have to do with a bad communication for expected vs actual file size checks or sql mismatches (as suggested above). Again, both of these are actual download size double the size of expected size.

Watching a new one, the size fills up to actual size the first try, then doubles the second try. After that, it stays the same size for both expected and actual. That aforementioned assumption about file sizes may not be correct. :-) But the malformation of files might not be.

Signing onto the site is still much slower than it used to be, and slower than signing onto to other projects - about 10 seconds here, 1 or 2 seconds elsewhere. But once inside, moving between pages is very quick for me.

The task I downloaded manually this morning (from WU 10721772) has just started running, and failed immediately like my wingmates and other tasks in this series:

Only getting about 3kbps up and down for work to your server.
I wasn't even able to log on to the site until I forced https.
I'll reattach my client to the https address to see if that speeds things up.

There could be something in the script of that page that is hampering.

what does the timeline in the browser's developer console tell you?

Haha, that's ok. I think we've pretty much got a handle on the problem now. Now we just need to solve it.

I've had 5 such NOELIA_pnp WUs fail on me, I've created a thread here, not knowing it can be a file download / corruption issue.

The specific batch from Noelia has a problem but it is unrelated to the server problem.

I haven't seen any problems with down/uploading files, but this is the first time since 3-4 I've been able to log in.

Firefox gives an error like "Firefox has detected this link is trying to redirect in a way that will never complete".

Chrome says: "This page has a redirect loop. The webpage at http://www.gpugrid.net/login_form.php?next_url= has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.
Error code: ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS"

It's not a cookie problem as I always clear cookies on exit. I was writing an email and wanted to get the exact Firefox message when it let me in.

I have the same problem.

It happens when I am on my gpugrid account data page, and I click log in.

If I am on gpugird main page, I click log in, I can log in.

I have another issue when I am on my gpugrid account data page, and I click forum, the link takes me to the gpugird main page.

The server is acting really screwy.

I have seen that too today, but only for a few times. About 10 minutes later when I tried again, it acted normal again, but still slow.

I saw that redirect message for over 24 hours. Was hoping someone would get through to report it. :-)
Also, the NOELIA thing has stopped and I flushed the bad ones by starting them and letting them abort.

So long as it's not so slow that it times out, or your client goes idle while waiting for the download to complete?

What URL are you using? HTTP or HTTPS? What BOINC client version and platform?

While Downloading and Uploading do not seem to be an issue the main web site http://www.gpugrid.net/myaccount.php tasks over 1 minute to load.
https://www.gpugrid.net/myaccount.php is a little faster 30 Seconds to load.

The message boards are fast, but logging into my account still takes about 15 seconds. And going into the preferences is fast, but backing out takes about 10 seconds on my browser (Firefox 36.0.1).

Ceased website lag or stalls via BOINC manager.
Zero lag navigating --- GPUGRID URL HTTPS (TLS 1.0 - RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High): RSA with 2048 bit exchange)
HTTPS responses quickly with IE Win10 phone and Win7/8.1 systems.

I take it the changes required a reboot last night -- noticed you were offline for about 3 hours.

Login performance is quite a bit better.

Other areas seem pretty snappy. Uploads and downloads are faster as well.

How is it working now? We have made some changes.

Login performance is quite a bit better.

But the performance of login to an account or consulting an account of another volunteer is far below the "old" performance

You'll now no longer get a list of your other projects on your account page.

It was nice to be able to consult the other projects in which the GPUG volunteers participate... Snif, snif

I've not had any work for ages. Other projects are loading ok.
I liked the idea of GPU work as it's efficient but lapsed back to F@H GPU work- for some time now.
Are there some restrictions I don't know about?

Your graphics driver is to old. Newer applications are running at GPUGRID since a few months now and you need at least driver version 343.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Not surprised!
Every time I update the GPU driver to over the '300 mark' series I get 2 repetitive [endless driver spinning loops] crashes here and then and have to revert.
I'll try again -but not over hopeful as though new drivers may be tested for newer games/apps -they don't take retrofitting too well,in my case at least :(

This is off topic - not a server performance issue.

As TJ said, your 275.33 driver is too old.

Try a clean installation.

What must I do to get work from the server?

This thread is a News thread about Server performance, and is really not the correct place to be asking your question. Instead, you should have created a new thread in the Number Crunching forum.

To answer your question, while your Quadro 4000 GPU has compute capability 2.0 per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CUDA ... and we currently support 2.0 or higher per https://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=2507
... there are minimum driver requirements, and your 296.88 driver is quite old.

How about you try the 347.52 drivers, available here:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Jacob

If you upgrade to the most recent BOINC version 7.4.36 everything should work. Here is the link to download BOINC for all versions (Windows 32 bit, 64 bit, Mac, etc.) http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

for several hours now, BOINC indicates that e2s27_47f107-NOELIA_3mgx1-0-2-RND1422_0 is "uploading", but in reality nothing happens. The upload obviously does not start, hence, and no new task is being downloaded either.
Any server-problem?
What can I do to get the finished product uploaded to your server?

Salut Anthony,
Je pense que tu devrais upgrader tes versions de BOINC Manager en passant en 7.4.36.
Voici où tu trouveras la dernière version en date :
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
D'autres utilisateurs GPUG ont également rencontré ce dysfonctionnement.

Thank you very much, my laptop has downloaded a new gpugrid wu.

I have questions about the latest version of boinc :

I can't put the gpugrid's processus to high priority. I usually put it to high priority beacause with my desktop I run also WCG a 100 % of my core i5 2500's to use the best powerful of my GTX 580. Does exist a solution to put the GPUGRID's process to high priority or it is useless ?

On my laptop I don't have this problem beacause Asus put a very severe temperature management on the cpu (it can't pass the 85°C) so if I run a gpu project on the gtx 850 M and a cpu project i have an important throttling to 1.6 Ghz and I think it is reduce the usage of the GPU, so I don't run WCG on my laptop to use the most power of the GPU. The GPU dosen't have this problem (it is support a oc to 1216 Mhz core).[/list]

Unable to report ready WU's and, hence, download new ones. This is the third day for this glitch. What should I do? BOINC says project server may be down, but your site says everything is up? WCG works fine. Asteroids downloads fail. Is this problem on my end? All updating has failed for GPUGrid.

Hello Mel S Stark,
It looks like the same problem than me : Yesterday morning I can't download new wu from GPUGRID. The solution proposed by [CSF] Thomas Dupont solves the problem :
Update your boinc version to the latest 7.4.36 at this link :

Hi

I have a job that has been sitting in my tasks now for a few days. It has missed the deadline and will not upload at all. The projects windows shows a communication deferred 23:55:58.

You need to upgrade Boinc client to latest version because of certificate problems on this project. That's is why you can't upload.

That shouldn't be a problem any more.
Peter - dod you see any messages about "HTTP errors" in the BOINC upload log.

I so rarely login these days...preferring to let my 690s and 670 purr along.

However, I just checked and one of my my machines "timed out" with unreported jobs that had a deadline of March 23.

Communication is deferred and counting down from 24 hours.

No new tasks are queued to download and none are running.

There are problems:
1. all sites react and refresh very slow
2. uploading is extremely slow and stalled, have to do it manually
3. not getting new work
4. message is logfile that project servers may be down, but that seems not the case

After a break to let drivers evolve I have now loaded version R353.30 % this appears to be working OK.
I've completed a short unit -and now doing a Long. I'm probably bottom of the pile production wise, but I don't mind giving the GTX460 a run home on a useful project. :)
